The service was outstanding, and each day the staff arranged our activity pickups and drop-offs. We were only a few minutes’ walk from dark skies for northern lights photos, and the hotel itself is beautiful. The food was delicious, the cocktails were excellent, and breakfast was top-notch. We stayed three nights and everything else was perfect, though the snowcat tour felt more suited to an older audience. For a Svalbard visit, Funken Lodge is a great choice.

The hotel was extremely clean, and the rooms were nice. Staff were very friendly, and the included breakfast was tasty. It’s a short walk uphill from the centre, but still manageable even in the snow.

The room was comfortable, with good blackout curtains, and the service was excellent. Breakfast and lunch were fine but nothing remarkable. Our group had a set restaurant meal with no choice, and the entrecote de boeuf was tough and gristly, badly cooked. One waiter smirked when he noticed the food left on our plates, which made it seem like he knew it wasn’t good. A five-star hotel should do better.

The restaurant has an amazing view, and breakfast was great. Everyone was helpful and service minded, and it’s about a 10-minute downhill walk to the centre. We had a lovely time overall, though the sauna and gym were closed for renovation. They hadn’t mentioned this when we booked, and those facilities were one of our reasons for choosing the hotel, so that was disappointing.

We spent four nights here in September 2024 and had a great stay. The food was excellent, the rooms comfortable, and the staff very friendly. Walking downtown took around 10 to 15 minutes and was quite doable. I’d stay here again if we return.
