AC Hotel by Marriott Bratislava Old Town

The fitness room and housekeeping were good, and we enjoyed the dinner, drinks and service at the Lounge Bar. But we felt unwelcome at reception. Each time we spoke with them, once at check-in and twice with questions during the stay, they seemed uninterested and answered as if we were bothering them. The exception was trainee Vladimir on our last day. He was polite and willing to help. Breakfast was okay, but the food didn’t feel fresh. Right after breakfast ended, a woman, possibly the manager, came to our table and two others and rushed us out. She shouted, “Hey guys, I give you 5 more minutes, you need to go.” We’d finished eating and had only about a third of a cup of tea left. I’ve never seen that kind of behavior in a hotel. The worst part was a company party at the hotel that went very late. Even on a higher floor, the bass and music were loud enough that we couldn’t sleep. We called reception around 1 o’clock in the morning and were told it would be over soon, but it continued until around 2, when we could finally sleep. Nobody apologized the next day. If they’re having a party, guests who need to sleep should be put in rooms on the other side of the hotel. I wouldn’t recommend this place because it doesn’t seem customer focused.

The hotel is close enough to walk to the old town, though finding it by road took a little effort. Larger signs would help. I stayed for two nights and found the room comfortable, a good size, and well equipped. Breakfast had plenty of choice, and the staff were helpful.

The hotel itself has a good location and nice rates, but two staff encounters made the stay awful. There were three of us, yet we were given a room with only two beds. One employee said no larger room was available and made us wait until the next day. Then a different receptionist showed us a bigger room, so the first employee's explanation seemed untrue. At night, we also tried to order food from the barmaid before the kitchen closed at 21:45. She hadn't told us the closing time, and around 21:40 she was nowhere to be found. When she came back at 21:47, she said the kitchen was closed. I told her we'd been looking for her since 21:40, and she shouted that she'd been there washing dishes. I asked her to stop shouting because I was speaking politely to her. She kept insisting she had been there. Very rude and ignorant. The hotel is good, but some of the staff are terrible. I won't stay here again.

The room was spacious, but noise from upstairs kept carrying through the bare, hollow sounding floor. We could hear footsteps and chairs scraping across the floor above, where there was a table and chairs. There was knocking too, though I don't know if construction was happening. It was my first visit to Bratislava and we stayed two nights, hoping for a peaceful break, but all the noise was disturbing.
