The courtyard was pleasant, and we did manage to get a beer, even though the staff wanted to head home. The cellar wasn’t open, so we didn’t see it. Breakfast was OK, but nothing special. For a place rated four stars, it felt pretty dated. There’s no parking, the sauna was broken, the bar shut early, and the staff didn’t make us feel especially welcome. On our arrival day the hotel couldn’t serve dinner, so they sent us to their sister hotel. We nearly left before the second night, but stayed because our days were already full. There’s no minibar, fridge, or kettle. The curtains barely block anything, so we got sunlight from dawn despite having a nice view of the square. The beds weren’t great either. I wouldn’t return.

We were touring Slovakia with Travel Slovakia and had a really good meal here. We were on our own, but the menu was in English and people spoke English too. It’s in a friendly downtown area.

The staff were great and spoke English with us, and the food was excellent, freshly tasting and well prepared. I had pork medallions for my main course. They were cut nicely, though one had a little fat, and tasted good. The grilled vegetables were very good too, and I’d suggest adding them to the menu as a side. The carpaccio seemed freshly sliced and was tasty. Its toast was nice and refreshing, with a light buttery flavor.

The restaurant visit on 18 May 2019 was frustrating. It was sparsely occupied, yet we waited ten minutes for a waiter, then had to ask for the menu and ask again. While we were being ignored, I got my main dish at the restaurant across the square. Four stars for this service? My hotel rating is more generous. The interior already looked retro in the 1990s, which clashes heavily with the historic building, but it was well maintained and the Wi-Fi was normal. There were mainly older bus tourists. I paid 32 for a single room without breakfast, a fair deal for a very quiet room and good sleep. With some goodwill, my 19 May 2019 summary is restaurant 1, hotel 4.
