The rooms could use an update, but that didn't spoil our stay. We loved the food, which was plentiful and authentic, and the bar was great too. The skiing location was amazing, and being able to unwind in the sauna and spa each evening was a real treat.

We stayed at another hotel in the chain last year, Grand Hotel Praha, but this one was absolutely fabulous. The rooms were much bigger, more comfortable and spacious, and spotlessly clean. Staff were friendly, everything ran smoothly, and we felt welcome. You'd never guess it's rated only 3 stars. We're very happy with our choice, will choose it again next time, and strongly recommend it.

The economy rooms were perfectly satisfying, and both breakfast and dinner were excellent. For a 3 star hotel, it really impressed us. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and there's a pool table, table tennis and a children's corner. With the ski lift only a few steps away, it's a great base for skiing. Even in high season, I think it's good value for money.

There were good points and some real disappointments. Our double economy room and beds were comfortable, and the curtains were good, which is rare in Slovakia. Breakfast had a wide choice and was good. The wellness centre was nice, though small enough that I can imagine it getting crowded in high season. Dinner was the worst part. We paid 30€ for two people, drinks not included, and the food was nowhere near what I'd expect from a 3-star hotel. It felt like a school cafeteria, with frozen vegetables in the buffet. It was the worst meal of our 12 days in Slovakia, despite costing more than meals elsewhere. I'd choose one of the village restaurants instead. Most staff didn't speak any English, which seems surprising in a well-known mountain resort. Some also need to learn how to treat guests politely. While we were eating, a waiter literally leaned across our table to take the drinks list, without any need and without asking, "Excuse me, can I take the menu please?" They made us feel as if we weren't Slovak. The hotel has a 70s vintage feel and needs a lot of updating, including the paintwork, plaster and carpets. We were there the 1st week of September, still in full season, but the bar wasn't open and the pool table was closed. There was no life after 9pm, and the staff seemed to think that was completely normal. "It's Tatras," they say, so leave it as it is. Slovakia has a lot going for it, but some places still have a long way to go in developing tourism to a good standard and attracting visitors from across the EU, not just Slovaks.
