Hotel Atrium

The location was handy, close to the center with a Lidl nearby. For a two-star hotel, I was happy with everything: the staff were helpful, the food and breakfast were good for the price, and the room was cleaner than in some higher-rated hotels. It had everything I needed.

The location is great, and the bin was emptied and bath mat changed every day. That’s about the extent of the good points. I’ve never written a longer Google review, but Atrium earned the extra attention. On Friday and Saturday, the nightclub in the basement plays loud music until around 3 or 4 a.m. The sound system is impressive, but you won’t sleep. If you’re unlucky, a 60th birthday party in the foyer adds another sound system, with party music clashing against the club bass. And weekdays aren’t necessarily peaceful either. On a Wednesday, a group of drunk men woke me by singing karaoke and drinking beer on the corridor sofas from 2 to 3 a.m. Their version of The Rolling Stones’ ‘Wild Horses’ was pretty good, to be fair, but I still couldn’t sleep. Then the cleaners were chatting at 6 a.m., if you’d managed to get a couple of hours in. When I complained at reception, I was told, ‘This is what happens at Atrium,’ as if that settled it. So sleep on the street, stay up all night in the basement club, or book a different hotel in Malacky. Just avoid Atrium.

The staff are the real highlight, with service and an attitude that felt like a five-star hotel. It’s a lovely, clean place in a great spot for either a short or longer stay. I’d happily return.

Dinner was decent and fairly priced, and the cafe is good. Breakfast wasn’t good, though, and the internet connection was very poor.
