Hotel River

We booked a table for ten with a set menu. My rib eye was fantastic, well seasoned and cooked perfectly rare, just as I ordered. The beef and schnitzel weren’t as good, and the chicken breast was dry. Service was okay overall. They missed several desserts that were meant to be served, but that was fine since we had a large cake made for us instead.

The street noise is a real problem, especially in rooms facing the road, where passing cars can wake you up. The rooms aren't soundproof, either. Beds are uncomfortable: they're all singles with hard edges, and pushing two together leaves a wooden gap in the middle. It isn't bad, but it feels like a decent three-star hotel dressed up as a four-star one, with four-star prices.

The breakfast was very good. The rooms and fittings feel pretty classic, and the hotel itself seems closer to three stars than four. There's a noisy street nearby, so make sure to ask for a room on the river side.

I travel to Nitra often and have tried quite a few hotels, but I keep coming back here. The mattresses are the best I've found in town. It's also in a nice spot by the river, reasonably priced, and has a good restaurant that stays open late. There's private parking, the reception is open 24/7, and the wifi is good.
