W21 Penzion Villa Veres

The rooms can be a bit harder to heat, and the furniture looks older, but it all works as it should. It’s got an internet connection, too. I like the 70s style, so I can’t fault it, especially for the price. The owner is nice and helpful, and the guesthouse is well located.

We were so disappointed when we arrived at Villa Veres that we considered turning around and going home. We didn’t mind the old socialist-era furnishings, but there was mold and dirt, a kitchen cupboard door was missing, and the pots were in such bad shape that even a homeless person wouldn’t take them from the trash. There were only two glasses for the three of us, and it was incredibly cold. We had to chase the owner for two days before he finally turned on the heat, and even then it was very low. In the living room, only one of the two radiators worked. When we complained, he called us picky. I’m attaching photos, judge for yourself.

The main upsides are the location and parking. The free Wi-Fi offer is best forgotten, if you’re lucky, you might connect here and there in the yard. TV channels are very limited, and though the bed linen was clean, the towels were gray. The style feels like a return to socialism, with worn furniture and very little renovation.

The city-center location is the only advantage I can see. The place is nothing like the photos on Booking.com: the equipment is very old, the kitchen unit is missing a door, and the rusty bathroom is full of mold. None of the equipment works. It was so cold that we came home sick. I don’t recommend it.
