Hotel Avalanche

We found the staff really friendly and helpful, and the food was good. The menu was simple, which I enjoyed. Our apartment was clean and pleasant, with a nice balcony and a mountain view. We stayed for a week at the end of June, having booked the apartment, and it was just right for a couple or family. It’s a nice three-star hotel in a good spot for hiking or a holiday in the High Tatras. The bus stops just outside on the main road, with service towards the mountains and down to the city. The pool was a bonus and we tried it, though we didn’t use the spa. We’d definitely come back.

I spent three nights here while touring Slovakia and the Tatras alone on my motorcycle. Everything suited me, and it was good value. If I head to the Tatras again next year, I’ll stay here.

The view is nice, though nothing special, and the spa is a welcome addition. There’s also an elevator, which is unusual for a three-star hotel. Still, it felt like a very average and expensive stay, though I guess that’s the reality in Slovakia. We paid €320 for two nights with half board. The rooms were basic, with fine beds and nothing fancy. Breakfast was disappointing: the juice, cold cuts, and bread seemed like the lowest quality possible. At least the coffee was real coffee, which isn’t true of every hotel in the country. The pool was quite small, and the water didn’t look very clean, though my kids enjoyed it anyway. I wouldn’t buy half board again, since dinner wasn’t very interesting. The staff were average at best, and came across as cold. If I return to the High Tatras next year, I’d probably look for somewhere else.

The food was disappointing, bland, overpriced, and served in portions that felt too small. The receptionist wasn’t warm, and the unfriendly service made the whole dining experience even worse.
