Garni Hotel Fatra

The village and the Fatra made the trip fun, but the hotel wasn’t the reason. We were 20 people staying for five days, and the owner was quite rude and didn’t seem to like children or a large group. At times, the staff came across as unprofessional, though the young woman serving dinner was very kind and patient. We also got the impression they really didn’t like Hungarians. The hotel offered a common space for board games, chatting and drinks later in the evening when we asked beforehand, but when we went to use it, they sent us out. We found another area, and were rudely interrupted there too, with “we are a hotel” used to make us feel guilty. As a group, we agreed the service felt more like a hostel or pension at best, not like our past hotel stays. Breakfast was very basic, with mostly the same all-you-can-eat options each morning. Dinner wasn’t anything special, some choices were questionable, and the portions weren’t suitable for small kids. Room sizes varied a lot. They were mostly clean and nothing special. The cleaners did a decent job during the day, but moved our things, and the quality varied from room to room. It’s in a small village, and there was a wonderful ice cream shop nearby, zrmzlinarium.
