Akine Dyioni Lodge

Diembéring is a lovely village, and we’d be happy to come back. While there, we’d book the kayaking through the hotel again, Charles was a great guide, and the open air museum is worth a visit too. Akine Dyioni was the standout of our two weeks in Senegal. The rooms felt luxurious and the grounds are beautiful. Fabienne and her team went out of their way to handle our vegan diet, and Papis cooked us some excellent meals. We also appreciated that the place runs entirely on solar power and avoids plastic waste, including plastic water bottles. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Akine Dyioni!

There are loads of quiet spots around the well-kept grounds, from hammocks to yoga spaces and deck chairs. The beach is an easy walk over the dunes and good for swimming. Under its new owners, this place is a real gem. Just keep Sunday in mind: the restaurant is closed, and there aren’t many food choices in town that day either.

After exploring Casamance, it was such a pleasure to return to the lodge. We’d walk the beach before dinner, then wake to birds singing. The beds, rooms, food and service were all lovely, and we could easily have stayed longer. Arndt, Fabienne and the team are always ready to help with questions, whether they’re about taxis, shopping or things to do locally. The art and library add to the lodge’s special feel, and it’s a peaceful spot in a unique location. Simply perfect.

I came as an adventurous traveler and was pleasantly surprised by how established and well stocked this lovely lodge is. There are thoughtful little touches that make it feel special, and the choice of food and drinks is hard to beat. If you want more of a Senegalese experience, town is only a short walk away. The lodge itself feels like a peaceful escape, and I’d highly recommend Akine Lodge for the value.
