The staff were kind, and breakfast was simple but good. The owner also responded even though I booked very late, and someone kept in touch and waited until 1:00 AM so we could make our boat transfer. The room was a letdown: we got three beds instead of what we’d reserved, there was no running water, and we had to use buckets for showering and flushing. There weren’t any power outlets either, so we spent the morning charging devices in the common building instead of enjoying our holiday. The advertised Wi-Fi wasn’t available, and the pool was empty. The costs were confusing, too. The morning rate was much higher than the amount in my online confirmation. We were told it might cover the boat transfer, but still had to pay the boatman separately. I felt duped, though I paid him because he’d waited until 1:00 AM and I believe in karma. Management should have explained the charges clearly. When I contacted the owner, he blamed the misunderstandings on the late booking. Lovely people, but the missing facilities and unclear pricing made for a disappointing stay. Live and learn.

A lovely place to relax and enjoy nature. We had a great time at marlodj, with really friendly and helpful staff, delicious homemade food, and lovely tours they organized.

The beach and jetty are only a few steps away, and the people running the property were kind and attentive. I enjoyed staying here, though it’s far from the few villages and the pool had no water. Mar Lodj Island was one of the most picturesque, natural places on my trip to Senegal. The clean, fresh water is lovely for swimming, and from the jetty you can watch lots of birds from the Saloum Delta. With only horse-drawn carriages on the sandy roads, it feels like stepping back in time. We also took a pirogue through the Saloum Delta canals, the balongs, at sunset. It was wonderfully quiet and peaceful, with just the water lapping and wings fluttering. The island deserves more time to explore and enjoy.

The food was delicious, and Borom Cuisine deserves thanks for the tiebou dieune. Moustapha and Adama made the meal especially wonderful. The staff were lovely and professional, and the setting on Mar Lodj Island felt simple and authentic. A timeless moment. Thanks, guys, see you soon!
