The pool and beach were ideal, and the breakfast and dinner buffets had plenty of variety and tasted great. We stayed half board for three nights, our family of four split between a standard room and a chambre flotante (house boat). My husband and I loved the houseboat and its roof terrace. It was very cool, though a squeeze for more than a few nights. The standard rooms have more space. Some parts of the hotel could use updating, but it’s well maintained. We all enjoy exercise and made good use of the gym and running outside the hotel. I’d highly recommend staying here.

The staff were great, and we did have a good time. But the place needs an overhaul if it’s meant to live up to what Movenpick stands for. We stayed in a floating room with an ocean view, though you had to climb onto the roof to see much ocean. The rooms float in a sealed-off pond, and the water quality isn’t good enough for swimming. The gap between the wall and bed, along with the air conditioner’s position, made getting in and out of bed hazardous for one of us. At dinner, the music was much too loud, amplified out of sync around the area. The lighting came from a strange angle and blinded people at the table. It was the same at the beach restaurant, where you pay extra and expect to hear the waves and have more intimate lighting.

The standout for me was the setting: a peaceful, well-kept stretch of beach that’s lovely for a walk or sunset, with spacious grounds, gardens, and several pools. Mövenpick Resort Lamantin Saly has a calm, polished feel, and the service and design add to that sense of comfort. Its floating rooms are especially striking. They look beautiful and unusual, and even seeing them gives the place a private escape-on-the-water feel. The restaurants and lounging areas are thoughtfully arranged too. For a premium beach stay in Saly, Mövenpick Lamantin is well worth a visit.
