The rooms are extremely basic, with just a bed, door, bathroom, and desk. There’s no kettle or cups, and the toiletries are limited to shampoo and a bar of soap. The hotel stands where the owner’s childhood home used to be. He’s a Dutch man who moved to Suriname for retirement. It does the job if you’re prepared, though there may be better options for the price. Airport pickups cost $60, and they let us check out late at 1 pm. My main issue was the mosquitoes everywhere in the unairconditioned walkways and lobby. I got more bites indoors than outside.

We chose it mostly for the photos and the price, knowing it probably wouldn’t be amazing. Still, arriving felt strange. In the bathroom we noticed mold in the grout and a few hard water stains. We were told to leave our room key at the front desk whenever we went out, which didn’t feel safe, so we took anything valuable with us. A few times the owner was asleep in the lobby when we came back, adding to the odd feeling. He seemed genuinely nice, but the place felt more like a dressed-up studio attached to his home than a hotel. Unfortunately, we probably won’t return.

The host and attentive staff made the hotel feel warm and welcoming, almost like being embraced by family. My modern, European-style room was cleaned daily with great care. The host served delicious Surinamese food and great drinks, and I felt completely safe. There was also free, clearly marked parking. I had an awesome 2 weeks here and will definitely come back next time I’m in Suriname!

The elevator was out because of water damage, and the shower drain was blocked, leaving a pool of water around our feet. The bathroom had stains and hair on the sink when we arrived, and some towels looked stained too, so I wasn't sure they were clean. There was no complimentary water either. Nothing really worked for us during our one night. At €80, we expected better service.

Ron, the owner, is a really nice guy and the location is excellent. The rooms look new, though the bathroom fittings are already starting to tarnish. The beds are the real problem: we were told every room is set up this way, with two twin mattresses pushed together under a queen sheet. You end up sinking into the gap, so I wouldn't recommend it for couples.
