The kids enjoyed the pool, and the staff were friendly, but there were problems throughout our stay. Food took 1.5-2 hours at lunch, dinner, and breakfast, and service stopped at 8pm when the staff left. The beach was locked at night. There were too many cats and dogs around the dining areas, and the guest music felt really dated. Our room was basic, with just one sheet for a cover. Even though I had told them it was two adults and two children, we got only two towels. They refused to give us more unless we booked extra nights. At check-in, we paid cash for the room, then got an emailed receipt showing a total $20 less than what we had paid. At checkout, they added another $30+ in “service/misc fees,” and I still don't know what those were for. I don't like leaving reviews like this, but the place felt overrated. You can find nicer stays in El Cuco for better prices. Check your receipts before paying for anything. After midnight, I saw a drunk guest in the garden, shouting, and a man physically knock a drunk woman to the ground while the guards walked around laughing about it. 🫤

The employees tried hard to give good service, and Cuco is probably the best beach in El Salvador. Those were the only things I found redeeming after spending $182 for the day. The food was absolutely terrible, the place is run down, and there seems to be no maintenance. Mold was everywhere, and my kid cut her toe on a broken tile on the pool stairs. Stray cats and dogs were all over, too. This place used to be about the best around in the 1990s, but the owners are letting it fall apart. Avoid at all costs.

I rented two hammocks for $8 and got a great nap under the canopy. The $20 day pass is redeemable for a meal, and the food and pool made it worth it. It's at the far end of El Cucu beach. I'd probably come back.

Everyone was helpful and nice, and the big rooms had great air conditioning. It's a lovely place to relax. Not a five-star resort, but still very nice. I'd stay there again and again.

The location is really nice, and the waiters were polite. I found the food a little too salty, though, and room service wasn't good. After we'd used our towels at the pool and beach, they refused to give us clean ones. There wasn't a hand towel in the bathroom, and in our four-bed room, one bed had no pillow or blanket. Next time I come to El Cuco, I won't stay here.
