My daughter loved swimming, and the sunsets were beautiful. Those were the bright spots in a stay that felt far below what a $230-a-night hotel should provide. Coco Blue Beach Resort has potential, but it seemed more like a soft opening than a finished property. After I spoke with the owner, Alex, he politely moved us to a second-floor room. That fixed the ant problem and made us feel safer, but other issues remained, including no blow dryer and facilities that still felt incomplete. I assume Alex, who is from Miami, knows what a nice hotel should offer, and I hope management takes this feedback seriously if they plan to meet the standard of a major brand like Wyndham. Our first room had ants in my daughter’s bed. There was no hot water, the power went out, and housekeeping never serviced the room. We also had weak, unreliable WiFi and couldn’t get the TV to work. Basic items were missing too: hand soap, towels, bath mats, a refrigerator, an extra door lock, a safe, bedside lamps, somewhere to sit, and proper storage. I ended up going to Walmart to buy towels, soap, and other things the hotel should have supplied. The pool area wasn’t clean or welcoming, and I slipped on its very slippery tile while getting in. There were no pool or beach towels. Some parts of the property looked unfinished, with caution tape separating areas of the hotel from the beach. The sand outside was covered in trash, and we saw several stray dogs relieving themselves between the hotel and the ocean. There’s a small restaurant, but it mostly has snacks rather than full meals. The prices were like U.S. prices, without matching quality or service, and there isn’t a proper bar. I travel often and have stayed in hotels around the world, but this is the first time I’ve felt I needed to write a negative review.

We had a terrible time here. The pool’s bathroom-style tiles are slippery, and I fell hard while holding my baby. I was badly hurt. Management didn’t help and even tried to blame me. My whole family was there, and my mom was really upset. We went to the hospital to make sure the baby and I were okay. While we were there, we saw several other people fall in the pool too. The owners clearly don’t care about guest safety. We won’t be back.

The food was dangerous too. My son ordered breaded chicken fingers but was served breaded fish. He’s allergic. Thankfully he only tasted a little because he thought it was gross, so his reaction was minimal. Someone with a severe allergy could have died, especially with no first-aid kit available. We came for a family day out while vacationing in the countryside, and the pool and service were awful. The tiles are wrong for a pool and extremely slippery. I fell taking one step in while holding my toddler’s hand, and he fell with me. We were both badly injured. Other guests told us they had slipped too, and my son even saw someone else fall. No one came to help while I was in pain and my little one was screaming. When we told the manager or employee what happened, he blamed me and said it was my fault. There wasn’t any sign warning that the pool was slippery or dangerous. They had no lifeguard or even a first-aid kit for the bleeding. If someone had hit their head, I can only imagine how bad it could have been. The manager and owner didn’t seem genuinely concerned. I know this is another country, but in the United States or Canada, they would have faced a huge lawsuit. We told them the pool tiles were unsuitable and dangerous, but I doubt they care or will change them. Guest safety should come first. This place seemed interested only in money, and I don’t want to go somewhere like that.

I’m writing for my mother-in-law, who is now sick. She ordered the chicken sandwich. It looked cooked outside, but felt strange, and when she checked it more closely, it was plainly raw inside. They took her meal off the bill, but the four of us still paid nearly $200, and by then we’d lost our appetite. You also have to spend at least $20 per person just to sit at a table. The food that was cooked was only okay. There are tastier, better value places to eat in Tunco.

We went for the day, so I can’t comment on the rooms. I’d put it at two or three stars. The sitting area is nice, with shade and a raised spot overlooking the ocean, and it’s well placed for the beach. The showers after swimming were very good. Vendors seemed normal, just say no or spend a dollar on a nice bracelet, no problem. Service was great. Some people mention slow food, but the kitchen only opens at certain times, and waiters will still take orders before then, so there may be a mix-up about the wait. It seemed like a quiet hotel, which might suit you, especially for the price and beach location. There are other restaurants nearby. At first there was no water in the bathroom, so the sinks and toilet didn’t work, but later everything was working. The beachside pool was dirty, and the Coco Blue lettering at the bottom was barely visible. It needs chlorine. The front pool looked better. The edge of the roof is coming off, and a simple nail might fix it, but it gives an impression of sloppy maintenance. Don’t order the fried mozzarella sticks, they arrived cold and seemed baked from frozen. The fried fish looked good. The food was covered in cellophane, which was great. The food seemed expensive to me, $8.95 for mozzarella sticks, but the beer was cold and good.
