Those wooden gates at Los Cuatro Olivos Hotel Boutique have a clever closing mechanism. Take a look at it before you go. It fits the care and character of the place. We loved having breakfast outside as clouds moved through the mountains below. The food was made fresh when we were ready, and the grounds, with their tropical greenery, antiques, and architectural details, were a pleasure to wander. It’s a wonderful spot if you’re into gardens, history, or architecture. The peaceful patios and hammocks made it easy to unwind, and our room was spotless, with cold air conditioning and dependable hot water. The hotel sits up the hill from Juayúa, an easy walk down for dinner on both nights. One evening, we took a little red taxi back up. The staff were friendly and available when we needed anything, without hovering. Staying here was a highlight of our El Salvador trip, and we’d happily return.

Cristi, the concierge, made the stay feel especially welcoming. She was kind and attentive, cooked us breakfast each morning, and shared fresh bananas and green mango with us. The food was delicious. The grounds at Los Cuatro Olivos Hotel are full of flowers and lush trees, with a peaceful feel. Our room was small but clean, and the bed was comfortable after long days out. We did wish the bathroom door had a lock for more privacy. Dogs live on the property, and there are strays nearby. Their barking woke us on two nights. Even so, we enjoyed our visit and would be glad to come back. I hope the barking and bathroom locks can be addressed.

Oscar was often around, helping with breakfast, watering the garden, chatting with us, pointing out birds, and suggesting things to do in town. He designed the beautiful hotel and gardens, and it showed in how well both were looked after. The whole team was friendly and took great care of us. Breakfast was generous and tasty, with fresh fruit, waffles, and an El Salvadorean breakfast. We ate outside overlooking the garden. We spent two nights there and felt completely relaxed. We’d love to return someday.

You don’t need a car to get to this hotel, despite what one reviewer said. It’s an eight-minute uphill walk from town, and if I could manage it at 68, most people should be fine. If the hill is a problem, there are little taxis. It’s a lovely base for a few days exploring the Ruta de Flores. The setting is beautiful and relaxing, and the owners and staff are fabulous. I can’t recommend this gem in Juayua enough.

The gorgeous view was a real treat, and we could be picked up here for the 7 waterfalls hike. We also enjoyed the campfires and chatting with other guests. The staff were amazing and made lovely breakfasts. A beautiful stay at a charming boutique hotel.
