The beach made the stay worthwhile, and the pool and restaurant were a fair experience. The facilities are dated, though, and seem to lack maintenance. My room showed that, and so did the recreation room, where the pool table was crooked. The bar’s last call was pretty early, at 9pm. For what you pay, it’s fair, but compared with better-maintained places, I’m not sure I’d recommend it.

The beach and the seating area beside it were the best parts of the resort. I won’t be coming back, but I hope the owners and Tesoro Beach management take the service and logistics issues seriously. If businesses want tourists to keep coming to the country, they need to work together and improve things to support the economy. At breakfast and dinner, the wait staff service needs serious improvement. On one night, Salinas was left alone to cover the entire packed upstairs area. He made everyone’s drinks, brought menus, and carried food up and down the stairs, all with a smile. I felt awful for him. A second waiter only appeared when a huge group arrived upstairs and then served just that table. The next night, we ate downstairs, but still had to hunt for a waiter. They passed without saying they’d be right with us. We waited ages for a menu until we found Salinas at the bar and asked him to help us get someone. He came to the rescue. I also saw a couple struggling for service before they were moved elsewhere, though I’m not sure why. Maybe the food service setup is part of the problem. They had two separate events going on while serving the regular dinner crowd. I saw waiters carrying food from the reception area all the way to the beach dining area. If the kitchen is that far away, it would explain why it’s hard to find a waiter or even get a menu. More menus left out for customers to pick up could take one task off the servers. The place may need to bring the kitchen closer, too. This looks more like a management and logistics problem than an individual staff problem. Breakfast was good, but it wasn’t clear how to get coffee or other hot drinks because they weren’t on the buffet line. We eventually figured out a waiter walked around with a tray, but we had to search for him. The next morning we came earlier and found him more easily, but the coffee was cold. When he ran out, he went to another food area to refill the thermos, only to find nobody had made more coffee. Ants were right by the silverware, and bees were getting into the juice dispenser nozzles. Another waiter was very nice and responsive, an older man who always smiled and poured the coffee without spilling it. There weren’t towels near the pool, which seems like basic common sense. Also, the water from the shower and sink in the rooms tasted salty. I didn’t mind washing with it, but tourists may not know to use the bottled water they leave in the bathroom for brushing their teeth. A note would help.

The pools were nice, and the beach was beautiful. Rooms were clean and there were good food options. Just know it isn’t an all-inclusive hotel. Mixed drinks were okay at $6, local beer was about $3, and the priciest plate I saw on the menu was $21.

The location was great and I liked the concept of getting tickets for the buffet and drinks during the stay. The food was good and the cocktails were excellent. The facilities could use some freshening up, but I had a great experience and would definitely come back.

The beach was clean, there were plenty of places to sit, and the sunset views were beautiful. Our room was clean, and the staff kept the pool clean too. It took a while to get a waiter to our table, but we’re looking forward to going back soon.
