Sambo Mambo Beach Hotel

There are better places nearby, and this felt like a tourist trap. Parking and using the restaurant costs $17 per person, credited toward the meal, but the food was poor and WAY overpriced. The view was just okay, upstairs service was slow, and the music downstairs kept cutting out. The place isn't well maintained either.

We rented two rooms and won't be coming back. One had a bat, and there was a roach in another; the sink was dirty too. We ordered wings, the smallest I've ever seen, and waited 45 minutes, only to get the wrong order without ranch. The worst part was checkout, when they charged us $15.00 US dollars per towel, saying they were dirty. I said if I had to pay, I wanted to keep them, but was told they'd already been put in clorox. They claimed seven towels were dirty, which felt very deceptive. The rooms cost $150.00 per night. Sorry to see hotels doing business like this.

The stay was very disappointing. Parking was cramped, and the front desk said we couldn't bring our own drinks to the beach, only buy them at the bar. Those drinks were horrible, overpriced, and barely tasted of alcohol. The room was tiny, and the internet was so slow I couldn't watch a full YouTube video. The only free breakfast was eggs, and they were raw. Pancakes cost an extra 9 dollars, which is more than I'd expect even in the USA. We ordered wings for dinner but they didn't have ranch. It took 30-50 minutes just to get cash out. The shower head leaked all night and kept us awake; asking them to close it didn't fix it. The pool looked nice under the lights, but the water seemed unclean, with white grease floating in it. It didn't feel hygienic for adults or kids.

We had a great family day here and would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting La Unión. The beachside tables, nearby bar, and layout made it easy to relax together, and the location was beautiful and family-friendly. After calling around and hearing that most places didn't offer day passes, we reached the staff here by phone and they were incredibly kind and helpful. Coming for the day was well worth it. We'll definitely be back.
