The room was simple and basic, and the guesthouse is still some distance from Amphawa market if you don’t drive and need to walk there. I chose Chotika Riverfront guesthouse hoping to see monks collecting alms by boat, but unfortunately I hadn’t checked the tides and it was low tide.

The riverfront view is beautiful, but the bedroom feels too small while the living room takes up too much space. I’d rather have more room in the bedroom. The air-con is small and can’t keep both rooms at the right temperature at the same time.

We ended up in a room in the jungle behind the river rooms, which looked nice but were full. Better value is available here for 1500 a night. The door lock broke, so we had to get out through the window.

The atmosphere was really pleasant, with English-speaking staff and peace and quiet. The river tides come right up to your doorstep. It’s easy to get to the floating market, riverside restaurants, and the evening firefly boat trip.
