Oh Amphawa Boutique Resort

The people running the place are very nice, and the rooms are good. It’s quiet at night, close to tourist attractions, and you can park on site. The family speaks little or no English, so Google Translate is needed. The online photos are from ten years ago, though, and the place doesn’t look like them anymore. The breakfast room is also the residents’ living room and bedroom, with a bed in the corner, and it doubles as reception. You have to take off your shoes for breakfast. The shower floor is covered with something like cobblestones, which hurts your feet.

We spent a lot of our evenings on the roomy second-floor balcony, and the riverside breakfast spot was beautiful. The hosts were so kind, even taking care of our laundry for free, and the whole stay was one of our Thailand highlights. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a comfortable bed, a decent-sized fridge, plenty of places to sit, and a modern bathroom. They replenished the shampoo, shower gel, towels, and other supplies every day. The Wi-Fi was fantastic too. Breakfast was included and had lots to choose from: coffee, juice, toast and jam, meat, salad, eggs, plus home-cooked dishes like congee and chicken rice each morning. Everything we tried was delicious. Amphawa floating market is about five minutes away by tuk tuk, or roughly a 20-minute walk. There’s a seven eleven, riverside cafés and restaurants, and several temples in the other direction. Maeklong railway market takes around 20 minutes by tuk tuk, or you can catch a Songthaew from Amphawa. Just outside the main gate is a very good, reasonably priced eatery where we and many other guests seemed to have dinner most nights. We also found the people around town incredibly friendly, and enjoyed walking around to see what we came across.

We’ll come back here. It’s good value, and the place was clean and new. Breakfast was really nice too, especially the pork porridge. They also had bread and coffee.

I haven’t actually stayed here, sorry, but I make a point of going to the noodle shop at the pak soi. Their bah mee moo daeng is the best in the world, and the moo sam chan is out of this world. Kung coffee Love, their in-house coffee shop, is always good. Enjoy...
