Tonsai Bay Resort

I had vomiting and diarrhea from 2pm to 7pm after lunch, though I ate on the other side of the peninsula. There’s a small pharmacy there, and staff said many people were coming in with the same problem. The room and location were pretty good, but the bathroom was very dark. It was just a shower, which was okay.

The property has a magical location and a unique vibe, and the staff are friendly and helpful. But they need to sort out the food situation. We knew there had been food poisoning reports at the resort restaurant and decided to stay anyway. We’ve travelled to many countries with food safety issues and had always been fine. We were careful for the first few days, then relaxed and started ordering food with ham and meat, including pizzas. After that, both my daughter and my wife got food poisoning. We only ate there.

The nights here are extremely peaceful. You can lie on the beach, listen to the waves, and look at the stars. The beach is also popular for rock climbing. At low tide, you can walk to nearby Railay beach, which is a little busier, or use the small trail between the two beaches. The price we paid was fair, and breakfast at the restaurant next door was okay if you choose carefully. Getting here by boat is the only option, which may be inconvenient for some.

The room itself was very good, and we had no complaints about the accommodation. The hotel and most of the staff were generally kind. But my partner and I both got food poisoning from the included breakfast, which is served at the café across the street. Many recent reviews, as well as reviews from previous years, mention the same problem. When I reported it, the cook came out laughing at me and implied that tourists complain about everything, even the coffee. It felt deeply disrespectful, especially with what seems to be an ongoing food safety issue that could be serious. We couldn’t have a proper conversation because he switched to Thai midway through and kept laughing. I’m South American and very used to street food. I know my privileges, and I wasn’t trying to interfere with anyone’s work or cause trouble. But when a service is provided and guests may knowingly be exposed to a health risk, that’s serious and feels misleading at best. I know some guests complain about everything, and I understand what hospitality work is like. Still, repeated food poisoning reports day after day need to be taken seriously and addressed. My partner had a fever, vomiting, and diarrhea and couldn’t move. The hotel did offer us an airport transfer as support, but the response overall was extremely disappointing, particularly the kitchen staff’s dismissive, mocking attitude.
