The Cotai Luxury Design Hotel

It’s my last day at Cotai, and I’m leaving impressed with how much the staff did to make us comfortable. My wife gets migraines, and the nursing team supported her fully. I could always reach the desk on Line, and every time I ordered something through reception, it went smoothly. I know some people complain about how long things take, but the hotel is nearly full and keeping every guest happy is a huge undertaking. Things can go wrong; what matters is how they’re handled, and Cotai Staff did everything they could for us. The staff were amazing. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the food was well above average. In fact, there was too much food, even for two people, and it felt like a shame to throw away so much that we couldn’t finish. I chose Cotai because it was one of the cheapest options. I’ve stayed in ALL Sheratons that exist in BKK, and the service and staff here are no less than at those 5-star hotels. I’ve travelled more than 100000KM around the world in the last year and stayed at many 4- and 5-star hotels. I’m Google Guide Level 7, and I really feel Cotai went the extra mile. Congratulations Cotai, I’ll recommend it to people I know, the normal ones who aren’t picky foreigners expecting to be carried around in their laps. If you want to be carried on someone’s lap, pay 60000 THB for a luxury hotel. Even then, I don’t know if the service would be better. Thanks for everything!

For what it costs, this was an acceptable stay. I don’t know what people leaving bad reviews expect; this is quarantine, and it’s my second ASQ hotel. Fourteen days in any small space is excruciating, whether it’s the Hilton or on the hill. The booking was quick and easy. Front desk staff were polite, answered quickly, and spoke good English. Airport pickup was by private car and took about 20 minutes. Check-in involved a long explanation of what was and wasn’t allowed. After a 12-hour trip, I’d have preferred a phone call once I’d freshened up. I wasn’t taking in half of it, and the mosquitoes were insanely ferocious. The room has dated furniture and a slight musty smell, but the full-length open-window balcony saved the place for me. The bed and pillow were surprisingly comfortable. There’s a basic TV with basic channels, two in English, plus water, tea, coffee, sugar, and creamer. The bathroom had dish soap, washing powder, and a toothbrush. The room isn’t very soundproof, so bring earplugs if noise bothers you. Fresh towels are available on request. Room cleaning can be requested two days after the first negative PCR. The air conditioning is cool and strong, and the bath has hot water with good pressure. Most of the time I could stream Netflix in HD without trouble. Wi-Fi speeds ranged from 5.5 to 140Mbps, and it’s now at 36Mbps. The food has no choice and is mostly Thai or Chinese, but it’s edible and the portions are big. You can tell them about preferences or allergies and they’ll accommodate where possible. You can order anything from 7-11 except alcohol. There’s a large, spacious area for fresh air or exercise, though I just use the balcony, which is enough for me. Staff are generally helpful but don’t speak English. Requests can go through the Line app or by calling the front desk, where the English-speaking person is stationed. The nurses speak English too. Just remind them if they forget your request. A little kindness goes a long way.

The hotel looks okay, but the room quality and service were very, very bad. I paid a lot for a 14-day quarantine and wouldn’t recommend anyone stay here. A request for mineral water made at 8am wasn’t fulfilled until 1pm. The TV was broken, and there was no toilet shower cap, ear clearing buds, or toothpaste. Wi-Fi was only 5 Mbps. Horrible experience.

The worst problem was the Wi-Fi. The signal and speed were terrible: I could spend 20 minutes trying to connect and then only get 40 minutes of use. Even YouTube at 144p took several seconds to load. I stayed in a Superior room for quarantine from 22 November to 7 December 2020, 16 days in all, and I would not recommend this hotel for a stay that long. The mattress was hard enough to leave my back hurting, and I often woke early because of it. The room was old and didn’t smell great. The toilet seat was dirty and poor quality, the TV was old with a blurry picture, and it wasn’t a smart TV for casting Netflix or YouTube. Some of the light switches didn’t work. Noise from the main road was also a problem. For one or two nights, it might be fine. But I don’t recommend staying here for a 16-day quarantine. It wasn’t worth paying 29,000 THB.
