Amdaeng Bangkok Riverside Hotel

Amdaend was wonderful. We spent four nights there in Bangkok, and it felt like a small hotel with a homey atmosphere. The staff were so sweet and helpful, especially Peter, who was a really nice guy. Our room had a gorgeous river view, a cute balcony, a bathtub, and a comfortable bed. I wanted beautiful decor instead of the usual hotel-room feel, and this place had exactly that. The look was spot on. The bathroom is separated from the room by a curtain, so keep that in mind if you want privacy. We loved it, though. I also liked being able to choose breakfast the day before, which felt sustainable. We had drinks and snacks at the rooftop cafe and recommend it. Everything was great, and we’ll 100% be back to Amdaend.

The rooftop bar, Hidden Gem, was pretty good, with a great view over the river and Bangkok skyline. Dinner at the restaurant was very good and well priced. There’s also a saltwater pool by the front and lobby entrance, about 8 x 4.5 x 1.1 m. The hotel is right beside the Chao Phraya River, around a 1.5 km or 15-minute walk from Iconsiam and Iconsiam 1 ferry wharf. It’s small and quaint. The staff were friendly, but on arrival they gave us very little information about the stay, including nothing about breakfast or Wi-Fi. The room was decent and had all the amenities, though it looked a little dated and the paint was patchy.

The location left us feeling cut off from much of Bangkok, and the river view didn’t make that inconvenience worthwhile. Inside, the rooms were dramatic to look at but awkward to use, and the design seemed to get in the way of a good night’s sleep. The whole stay felt built around appearance. The dark, heavily styled decor might photograph well, but the lighting made things hard to see and the atmosphere felt uncomfortable. Staff were polite on the surface, yet seemed disengaged. Questions got vague replies, and requests felt like a bother. Amdaeng Hotel comes across more like a venue than a place meant for guests to relax. It aims for an exclusive, mysterious feel, but struck me as aloof and impractical. For the price, I expected a hotel that put comfort and hospitality first.

The cocktails were a highlight. The Mango Sticky Rice drink was smooth and balanced, with the dessert’s sweet, aromatic character coming through without being too much. The Tom Yum cocktail was inventive, with herbs and spices unfolding gently in a layered mix of Thai flavors and modern mixology. Hidden Gem Rooftop Bar at Amdaeng by Njoy Prestige Hotel sits above the Chao Phraya River, with a wide 360° view of the water and Bangkok skyline. The lights on the river and the night breeze make it easy to lose track of time. Seating is comfortable, and the soft lighting and decor give the place a cozy, refined feel. The music deserves a mention too, it’s soothing and emotional without taking over the room. It’s a lovely spot for a slow chat, a quiet moment, or a romantic evening. I left feeling calm and already thinking about coming back. A real riverside escape above the city.
