Bangkok Midtown Hotel

The location was a problem for me. There’s a 711 nearby, but restaurants and shops are at least a 30 to 45min walk, and in traffic it can take an hour to get to anything significant. There are better options in BKK. The room also didn’t feel clean. One pillowcase looked noticeably grayer than the other, and the bathtub was so high that getting in to shower was difficult. Getting out felt like an easy way to slip, especially for senior citizens.

We were meant to stay 9 days, but left after the first night. The staff were friendly when we arrived and gave us a free upgrade to a large room with a big bed. Still, the hotel felt hot and stuffy right from the entrance. The hallway smelled bad, and there was an odd smell in the room too. My partner has asthma and sneezed all night, the air quality felt really poor. The room wasn’t very clean either. There were spots on the sheets, and the shower curtain was old and dirty. I think the hotel needs much better ventilation and some new basic furniture. My partner felt so sick that we had to move hotels after one night. The hotel offered to refund some nights, but not all of them. After spending the whole morning discussing it and calling Agoda together, we agreed on a refund amount and could move to a new hotel. Maybe it’s fine if you’re just there to party and sleep, but it didn’t feel like a place to relax or feel at home. People with long-term conditions especially shouldn’t stay here.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was clean. But the bathroom setup was absolutely unacceptable to me. There’s a sort of wall between it and the bed, but it doesn’t reach the ceiling, so the toilet is basically right next to the bed and you can hear everything. I don’t know how that can count as a bathroom. The location wasn’t great either. We’ve stayed in better areas, and there’s nothing around the hotel. You definitely need to rent a scooter if you stay here.

Two 7-Eleven stores right downstairs were handy, and the staff were friendly. The hotel exterior was acceptable. It’s not very close to the MRT, though, and most of what’s within walking distance is office buildings. The room had some leftover hairs, so cleanliness could be better, but that wasn’t a major issue for us. The noise was much more bothersome. Soundproofing is poor, and we could hear people talking in nearby rooms, noise in the corridor, the elevator, and doors closing. It was especially bad after midnight, when lots of guests were still awake. We reported it, the hotel spoke to the noisy guests, and things improved.
