Hostel Ploy was worse than I expected. I’ve volunteered in Spanish prisons that felt cleaner, safer, and more welcoming. The sheets were dirty, if they were sheets at all, and there were bugs and a general sense of grime. The bathrooms were disgusting, worse than nightclub toilets at 7 a.m. after a long night out. There was no hot water. The building felt unsafe. We were on the 4th floor, and I worried the place could collapse. The bed was rock hard, and the floor might have been more comfortable. The atmosphere was unsettling, with unfriendly people staring as if they were looking for trouble. There were prostitutes sleeping in the hostel, which says a lot about the place. It didn’t feel like somewhere for backpackers or travelers, more like a nightmare. If you care about cleanliness, safety, or basic comfort, stay far away. I wouldn’t recommend it even to my worst enemy. Zero stars if I could.

DONT EVER GO HERE!!! This was the worst hostel I’ve stayed in. There was rat poop and damp spots in my bed, and I don’t think the bedding gets changed. By morning, rats had eaten the food in our bags. The place was disgusting and felt unhealthy. It was too late at night to find somewhere else. We’d booked an all-women dorm weeks ahead, but they put us in a room with only men and didn’t warn us. When we asked, they said the women’s dorm was full. There was no toilet paper or sink, and it was really hot, with AC only at night. The staff weren’t helpful. They still wanted payment for a second night, though after a lot of back and forth they let us leave, and they didn’t seem to care about the rats. We weren’t allowed to lock the room and had no keys. There were no curtains like in the pictures. DONT EVER GO HERE!!!

The reception guy was friendly and helpful, and there’s free Wi-Fi, lockers for medium-sized bags, and a designated smoking area. Bring your own lock, though, and don’t expect towels or drinking water. You also need to leave a deposit of around 100 THB. It’s a basic hostel, mostly used by solo and budget travelers, and okay for a night. It’s set a little way in from the main road, and the area can feel deserted after dark. I saw mostly male travelers and very few women. Cleanliness could be better, the beds are loose and noisy when you turn over, and there are bed bugs. Decent for a short budget stay if you’re prepared for very basic conditions.

I felt unsafe here as a solo woman and had to check out. I haven’t had this happen anywhere else during my two months of travel. If you’re with someone, it seems reasonable for the price, with okay cleanliness and a great location. Maybe a women’s dorm would help.

My stay in 2022 was okay, but when I came back in August 2025 I got a lot of bed bug bites. I was there only 4 nights, yet the bugs got into all my clothes and my bag. It seems the problem still hasn’t been fixed, since other guests are still experiencing it. 😭 I booked a female dorm at Ploy hostel, but they moved me to the hostel next door, which I think was called Mint. I was told Ploy is for long-term guests and Mint is its sister hostel. That’s where I got the bugs, in the female dorm at Mint hostel. Beware. The toilet and shower were dirty too. 🥲
