House By The Pond

We’ve felt lucky to find House By The Pond, and after almost a year it feels like home. It’s a peaceful, green retreat in the middle of Bangkok, even with the busy city just outside. The apartments have a vintage, colonial-inspired look, cozy interiors, fully equipped kitchens, and airy living areas. The rooftop terrace is lovely for relaxing with city views. It’s rare to find somewhere in Bangkok that welcomes pets so warmly. The owner, Apituck, is fantastic and goes out of his way to make people comfortable, whether helping with small problems or stopping for a friendly chat. We highly recommend it if you want a calm stay close to the action, with pets welcome too.

Even though it’s among Bangkok’s busiest areas, this place feels like a little oasis. It sits between the MRT and BTS, and Emsphere, emporium Benjakitti park, and makro are within walking distance. The gardens are well cared for, and the green surroundings make it hard to believe there’s no traffic noise. The older building has a funky feel, lots of artwork and nostalgia, and more space than a typical Bangkok studio or one-bedroom. There aren’t many apartments per floor, which makes it feel personal. It’s pet friendly, and I even saw bunnies on the way to the steps. The rooftop view is super nice, better than some fancy rooftop bars I’ve seen. The staff are friendly and helpful, as are the building manager Hanah and Tuck.

The owner and manager, Apituck, gave us outstanding recommendations for places to eat, and we’re sincerely grateful to him. House by the Pond is right in the middle of Bangkok and offers great value as a place to stay. The older building has warmth and charm, with antiques, memorabilia, and a strong sense of history. In the newer building, there’s a rooftop garden surrounded by plants, a peaceful place to sit and reflect in this enormous city.

I stayed for six months in 2017-2018, and loved the location and cool building. Its antique atmosphere, combined with modern amenities, made the stay comfortable. I chose it mainly because it’s pet friendly, and the staff were very helpful while the owners were welcoming and sweet. They also made arrangements for my private vehicle. If I find myself in Bangkok again, I’ll stay here.
