La Locanda

I stayed in the single room for a few nights. It was quite small, but okay for that length of stay. The sink pipes had a major leak, though the women working at the hotel fixed it very quickly once they spotted it. The location worked well: tucked away from the main street and tourist crowds, while still within walking distance of 7-11s, restaurants, cafes, and blue MRT stations. The Wi-Fi was poor for most of my stay, so I had to use a lot of my own data, which cost extra.

The room was clean but a little small, and breakfast was tasty and enough. But over our four nights, we didn't get any sleep. People on the third floor partied until 3 am every night. Lots of guests complained about the noise, but nobody did anything. If you need to sleep, this isn't a good place. The walls are wooden and so thin you can hear every word from the rooms around you.

A good-value stay for younger travelers who like adventure and meeting locals. Chinatown is only a short walk away, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I'd recommend it.

For what you pay, it's not bad and reasonably clean. The rooms are so cramped you couldn't swing a cat. In room 9, the bunk beds need replacing: move even an inch and the whole frame squeaks, waking the other person. Someone in the building was unwell, and with walls this thin, we could hear everything. You get what you pay for, but that's my honest feedback.
