Tanee Place

I’d only use this place for a cheap half-night stop between trips. I wouldn’t stay beyond one night. The room was tiny, with no space to put my bag on the floor, and the internet was so bad I couldn’t even send a text. The air conditioning swung between freezing and sweaty hot, and a street lamp outside the window made sleeping difficult. The room and the Tanee Place complex smelled strongly of chemical cleaning products. The walls had splashes in different colors, the fridge was disgusting, and the whole place felt and smelled really grimy. Khao San is a horrible area to stay in Bangkok too, with partying, drunk tourists, and awful smells. Spend a little more and stay by the riverside instead. It’s much more authentic and quiet.

A 7/11 is across the street, and the main action is very close. My superior room was pretty small but clean, with AC, a TV, a small freezer, and a safe. The bed was okay, and it wasn’t very noisy for me.

This was the smallest room I’ve stayed in in Thailand. I paid about £18.50 a night for three nights. It was a budget room with a double bed and a fridge beside it, but there was nowhere for clothes, so they ended up on the bed, fridge, or floor. My room wasn’t cleaned while I was there. I’ve only stayed in two places in Bangkok, and the first was in disrepair. In Phuket I had two rooms at around the same or lower price, both bigger, and one was cleaned daily with fresh water left. Bangkok has less space, so I can’t really judge room sizes, but this felt like a standard room costing more than it should. Nothing else was bad, and it’s close to Khao San Road.

The only downsides were that there was no room service during my three days, and the Google Maps pin was a little off, so finding the place took some effort. I booked a balcony room during Songkran and it was perfect. I could join the festival right from the hotel entrance or just watch from the balcony. The receptionist was okay, spoke good English, and was very helpful. There’s a 7-11 right across the hotel. I’ll definitely come back for Songkran next year!
