The Myth-Sud Sathorn

We left first thing in the morning for a hotel that felt safe and quiet, and it was the best decision we made in Bangkok. The freeway noise was overwhelming even with earplugs, and a government air quality warning made the unsealed windows especially worrying. We nearly left in the middle of the night. The building shook as cars and trucks passed, and the windows and doors didn't close properly. There was no hot water, no amenities, just one pillow and one towel per guest, and no one at the front desk. Breakfast's instant coffee was awful. If you're looking for a cheap stay and don't care about comfort or quiet, you could try The Myth, but I wouldn't.

The host family's hospitality made this stay memorable. They were incredibly humble, and breakfast was delicious. We loved the whole experience. The location was handy too, right by the boat pier and metro, with plenty of restaurants and massage spas a short walk away. One of our best boutique hotel or homestay experiences here. The made-to-order breakfast was a highlight, all home cooked and delicious. I especially liked the fried rice and noodles, which beat what I've had outside, and the banana spring roll uses their home-grown bananas. Rooms were very clean, though watch out for the slippery bathroom floor. It's a historic, nostalgic building, and good value for the money. Saphan Taksin BTS is a stone's throw away, the ferry takes about five minutes on foot, and the shopping centre is three minutes away. Jok Prince, the Micheline porridge spot, is a five-minute walk, while Todalay seafood buffet is about 15 minutes away. Message them on WhatsApp if you need something, since there's no front desk around the clock.

The family history is a big part of the appeal here. It's been run by the same family for four generations, and talking with the lovely owners made my stay feel special. The building has plenty of age and an interesting past. Despite being next to a busy highway, the double-glazed windows kept the noise down well. It's in a lively area right by the train station, so getting around and exploring was easy. A 10/10 for me, and I'd happily come back.
