The Pavilion Place

The bathroom was okay, and at least there was air conditioning. But the room was dirty and smelled like an ashtray, and the worst part was the stained bedsheets. With nightclubs and brothels surrounding the hotel, you can guess the most likely explanation for the stains. After I complained at reception, they did put on fresh sheets.

The attendant was kind, and the location and room price were good enough that I'd still give it three stars. But the place wasn't clean: used soap from the previous guests was left in the bath, the curtains and everything else were dusty, the room smelled of smoke, and the carpet was worn out. I didn't even bother opening the fridge.

The staff were friendly, and having a security guard in the lobby made me feel safe in a really bad neighborhood. The place next door was called Screwy Boyz, a brothel where, as I understood it, rather young boys were on offer. The room was very run down and dirty, with cockroaches and other crawling things in the bathroom. I'm convinced there were lice in both the walls and the bed, so we didn't sleep in the bed at all. To be fair, it was the cheapest place I could find, and very, very cheap. We arrived at Don Muang in Bangkok at 21.00, with our flight from Suvarnabhumi to kuala lumpur at 06.00. We just wanted somewhere to keep our luggage safe for a few hours while we ate and rested before setting off again.

The room was a bit gloomy because not all the blinds worked. Still, for USD 25 per night it was good value. I stayed five nights in February 2018. The room was big, the bed comfortable, the A/C and hot water were good, and there was plenty of cupboard space. Cleanliness was okay for that price level. Staff were friendly, and the desk was open 24/7. Coffee and tea were available in the lobby all day. The location is excellent, right in the middle of the Pat Pong night market scene and very close to metro and sky train stations. It was surprisingly quiet at night considering where it is. I'd definitely use it again when I'm back in Bangkok.
