The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, Bangkok

I really appreciated the personal service during my week at the Western Grand Sukhumvit in Bangkok. Housekeeping picked up my laundry in the morning while I went to breakfast and had it back by evening. They also remembered my routine of ordering morning coffee from a local shop outside the hotel and made that easy. The hotel was immaculate, and getting around from its convenient location was simple. The staff were attentive, and the whole stay felt luxurious and thoughtful. I’d definitely recommend it.

What keeps bringing me back to this hotel is the way it keeps itself up to date. There’s ongoing “silent renovation” that isn’t in your face, and the place feels fresh and attractive despite having been around for some time. It shows in the small updates too: the pool has new towels that look built to last, and the room TVs have been upgraded. You can stream from an Android device now, and iPhone streaming seems likely to come next. Breakfast is a highlight, with a wide, high-quality selection that’s fresh and well replenished. The relaxed atmosphere makes for a pleasant start to the day. In the evening, the bar is comfortable and welcoming, and smokers can step onto the long balcony for a cigarette without bothering other guests. The Japanese restaurant is worth a visit at least once. The food is very good, including genuinely delicious sushi. Staff deserve a 10 across the board, sometimes more. I won’t single out individuals because that would do the others an injustice. Everyone helps maintain the standard, and the name badges are useful. Even the youngest team members have badges showing they’re in training, which feels friendlier and more personal than the plain “trainee” label at many hotels. I’ve reviewed this hotel several times over the past years, and could again mention its perfect spot by Asok BTS and the MRT, comfortable pool sunbeds, a lounge I consider one of Bangkok’s best, and spacious rooms with a wonderful bed and high-quality 400-thread-count linen. There’s also a large, beautiful bathroom mirror, one of those details you appreciate daily. Together, these touches make the hotel great and keep making it better.

The staff at the Westin Grande were so kind, and their service is why I’ll definitely come back. The gym, steam room, and pool were all really nice, and the hotel is in the Sukhumvit Asoke area. The rooms have that classic Westin feel, with wonderful beds. Breakfast was fantastic, and the entrance looked beautiful.

During our seven nights, the hotel left us with a strong impression of creative energy and service. The GM seemed to gather direct guest feedback and bring his staff together around the hotel’s goals, even with so many guests and employees. His leadership and that of his assistants seemed noticeable, and the atmosphere reflected the Marriott Bonvoy brand’s well-known standards. My family and I stayed in a 70-square-meter deluxe suite with access to the executive lounge on the 24th floor. It included free afternoon tea and dessert each day, plus evening snacks and drinks. Breakfast came with our suite rate, so we never felt hungry outside the hotel. We also received complimentary fruit in the room daily and two pieces of laundry service. The suite, lounge, furnishings and design, and breakfast hall all felt luxurious, with fine details taken care of. Breakfast each morning added to the trip. The Westin is on Sukhumvit road, with restaurants and shops nearby, and views of Terminal-21 shopping mall and Asok BTS metro station. We were greeted by the general manager, Mr. Robert Wittebrood, during his daily rounds in the breakfast hall. His staff seemed well trained, smiling, interactive, and eager to do well, beyond what we expected. Pae and Wichuda in the breakfast hall were very helpful. Miss Kyra, who seemed to have a senior position, was just as friendly and took initiative with our requests and those of other guests, always cheerful and treating everyone as special. The GM introduced me to his assistant, Mr. Sven Neuert. He was professional, experienced, tactful, and responsive, with a lighthearted way that made us feel as if we’d known him a long time. Management also seemed transparent and team-oriented.
