Tongpoon Hotel

For an affordable stay, this place does the job, especially if location and staff who respond matter to you. My room had a few minor problems, but nothing that would stop me from coming back. I can see how people’s reviews differ depending on when they stayed, their perspective, or which room they got, and I don’t think any of them are wrong. Some floors seem to be rented as long-term residences. That’s why the lobby can feel like somebody’s living room, with packages and amenities for residents around, more like a condo lobby. If you’re after a five-star stay where everything looks immaculate, this probably isn’t it.

The room was simple but very clean, with air conditioning and hot water, and the price was good. The location isn’t the best, though walking and taking public transport worked fine for us. I could reach some popular tourist spots on foot in about 30 minutes, so it wasn’t a problem.

The location is very good, and the bed was comfortable. The rooms are fairly spacious and clean, though I’d put cleanliness around 6.5 to 7 out of 10, depending on what you’re used to. The bathroom is old but clean, and the corridor has a slightly spooky, psychiatric-ward feel. The staff don’t speak English, but they’ll try to help if you can find a way to communicate. We paid almost 70 euros for four nights for two people, so judge it for this kind of hotel and price, not by reviews from before 2020. Don’t expect too much.

I booked through Agoda and arrived at the hotel at check-in time on the date of my stay. They suddenly told me they hadn’t received any email from Agoda. I called customer care and they sorted it out, but the hotel management didn’t respond.
