White Ivory Bed & Breakfast

We found the location handy, with convenience stores within walking distance, and we walked to quite a few tourist spots too. The shared kitchen by the lobby has utensils and appliances guests can use. Both the lobby and our room were very clean and fairly modern, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We had a really good stay at this little hotel. It’s great value, and I think it deserves a much higher Google rating. We’d definitely return.

The neighborhood around the White Ivory feels like a very different, everyday side of the city, even more down to earth than Bang Kapi, Rangsit, or Ramkhamhaeng. There are three nearby convenience stores: 7-12, Lotus, and CJ Supermarket, which has plenty of things I didn’t see at the other two. A half papaya outside the 7-11 was just 10 baht, and about twice the size of one at the usual price. Across from the 7-11, the fast food place sells stir-fried chicken kra phrao for 69 baht. There are also at least three nearby restaurants rated 4.9/5.0, though a meal there will cost 600-1,000 baht each. The interior, shared space, and room were all lovely, with a cozy boutique feel. Getting there from the BTS station meant walking alongside an unremarkable creek. The coffee service has stopped, but the Pattern Hotel, in an alley beside the White Ivory and owned by the same proprietor, serves breakfast at 7:30.

We enjoyed it as a short stay, and I’d recommend it if you want to be away from a busy area. It’s about a 10-minute walk to the BTS station, and we had the suite, so there was plenty of room. The bed was comfortable, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast is served at the next hotel. It was okay, but small: you choose a dish and they prepare it. The sound insulation is poor, so we could hear movement outside. Luckily, there wasn’t road traffic after midnight and it got quiet. The surrounding roads are narrow and dark, which made getting in or out of a taxi a bit tricky, and walking alone late at night could be difficult. There was no complimentary coffee, and the toilet’s sliding door wouldn’t close, so it had to stay open.

The breakfast choices were very limited: American or Thai dishes, with no fruit or yogurt, and there wasn’t an option to buy anything extra. When we arrived early in the morning, a very kind, attentive employee greeted us, though we had some trouble communicating because of the language barrier. I’d sent messages ahead about our early arrival but didn’t get a reply. Grab was taking a long time to reach the area, so I asked about a transfer. They didn’t have directions to offer, and the receptionist told me to try Grab.
