With A View Hotel @ Chiangkhan

The view across the Mekong River to Laos is the standout here. This is a cosy boutique hotel and cafe right in the middle of Chiang Khan walking street, with a wooden building, cute decor and cosy rooms. The cafe has a good choice of drinks, plus amazing cakes and pastries. Guests get an amazing breakfast, too.

The staff were all extremely friendly and did their best to help me as a solo female traveller. I really appreciated them trying to communicate with me in English. The room was small, but perfectly clean and had AC, a TV, a fan, a hot shower and good water pressure. I felt comfortable there, physically and mentally. I was there for a birthday weekend in April 2024. With A View is a charming hotel with a rustic style, right on the Mekong River. It’s a fantastic spot if you want to walk or cycle around the Walking Street and Mekong Riverfront area. The evenings were quiet once the night markets had closed, apart from a few motorcycles going by. Around 6.30am, locals prepared religious offerings for monks. I’m not familiar with the practice, and only watched, but found it very peaceful. There were quite a lot of mosquitoes during my stay, so I’d ask for repellent next time. Aside from that, it was an exceptional experience.

The room is very small, but the view is nice and the lounge is comfortable. Service is good, and the hotel sits right in the middle of the walking street. Free parking is a three-minute walk away, inside a Temple.

At night, both sides of the walking street fill up with food stalls, clothes, pubs and great lighting for taking a few photos. The town is enjoyable, the food is above average, and the riverfront path is lovely at sunset. Please remember not to leave rubbish on the riverbank. I paid around 1350 baht for one night, and the service was lacking. The room was small, and the toiletries were such a tiny amount, enough for just one shower. Breakfast was ordinary and had no choice, just one Western option: sausage, scrambled egg, plain bread, instant coffee, and orange or a slice of watermelon. I think that falls short of the standard in Thailand's cities. The river view is from a public walkway that anyone can access along the whole stretch. You might get better value by eating or having coffee wherever you like along there and taking in the view.
