Medee Resort

The location was great, and the rooms were clean and perfectly adequate. The beach was nicer than many other parts of the island, though the unusually low tide for us took away from the beauty of both the beach and sea. Most of the staff were good, and we were satisfied with the hotel overall, but we had a problem with one staff member who seemed to lead the service team. She was rude, spoke mockingly, and wasn't helpful. Our friends paid the same price but got a twin villa. She said the hotel was full and wouldn't move us, yet another staff member changed the room straight away. A woman we thought might be the owner or manager was there for one day. The staff member treated us very well while she was around, seemingly to make a good impression. That's how service should be, but it felt insincere.

We stayed in the cheaper chalet section, 1200baht per night and about a 400metres walk from the beach. The chalet felt private, with a lovely garden and tree view. It was large and had a great bed, though I wouldn't want one of the pricier rooms, which were very close together and had little to no privacy. The TV and safe didn't work, there wasn't enough usable furniture so our things ended up on the floor, and the shower was barely more than a trickle. The bathroom itself was okay. I enjoyed my stay, but the manager came across as combative and dismissive, and seemed to care only about profit. The management felt hostile, demanding toward staff, and generally unpleasant. A change in attitude would help everyone.

The location was nice and the room clean, but for the price it wasn't really worth it. Even with a “beachfront” room, we weren't actually on the beach, and the AC couldn't cope with the heat. As someone else mentioned, they only had a scooter for 450 THB, not a small one. We walked about a kilometer to a local rental and hired two, one for 250 and one for 200 THB. When we parked in front of the hotel, staff said we couldn't park there because it was for guests. We explained we were staying there, and then they said it was because we hadn't rented the scooters from them. The whole thing felt a bit weird.

We had a great three-night stay at Medee. The rooms were very nice, and the staff exceptionally friendly. The resort has its own section of beach where you can relax, plus free kayaks to borrow. We'd heard about the negative reviews and weren't sure if management had changed, but our experience was the complete opposite. We had a really good time.
