Noppakao Place

The staff were exceptionally helpful, and housekeeping did a great job cleaning the room every day. The location was very good, within walking distance of cafes, coffee shops, other shops, and convenience stores. The lobby was comfortable for relaxing after exploring the old city of Thailand. Our basic room was comfortable and had a balcony, though there were no outdoor chairs. I would have appreciated a few more in-room amenities, especially a kettle for tea or coffee, plus a hair dryer and iron.

We'd recommend Noppakao Place Hotel. Street food is an easy walk away, and parking is under the building. The staff were friendly, and the lounge around the foyer and reception was lovely, soft, and comfortable. There's a dining kitchen area where you can make and eat your food. The building is old-fashioned and solid, and our room was spacious, clean, and quiet. The bed was hard, as it is in most Thailand accommodation, and the grout on the bathroom wall tiles needs cleaning. I stayed with my son while we rode the Mae Hong Son loop road on a motorcycle trip. I broke a bone in my shoulder in an accident on wet, slippery mountain roads, so I stayed here to rest for a few days.

There are some decent facilities here: an elevator, AC, balcony, large refrigerator, and basic amenities, though no kettle. The rooms are maintained. But the mattress sinks badly under your weight, making comfortable, restful sleep impossible. I've stayed in many hotels, and this bedding is terrible. The shower also drains very poorly, leaving water pooled overnight, so it needs daily cleaning. Since the bed is such an essential part of a stay and is fatally flawed, the lack of investment in basics makes this guesthouse unworthy of a good rating.

There were roaches, the place wasn't very clean, and the showers never got very hot. I booked through Agoda but checked out early because of the room's condition. I couldn't get in touch with anyone on Agoda about it, and they won't refund me. When I tried to post my review there, I kept getting “errors” during upload, LOL. Don't trust the reviews on there.
