At Pingnakorn Huaykaew Chiangmai

We stayed in room 301, a very spacious two-bedroom suite. Each room had its own bathroom and two large beds, plus there was another bed by the entrance. The staff were super friendly and made a huge birthday surprise for our daughter. Thanks so much! Breakfast had a big selection. The hotel is in a quiet spot, though you can hear planes taking off. The only real pity was the rather cold pool water, but we were there in winter.

The hotel sits just outside the busy part of the city, which made it nice to have a quiet night after spending the day around crowds. The architecture is stunning and the staff couldn't be kinder. My wife has a gluten allergy, which has been a major challenge for us elsewhere in Thailand. Here, the breakfast manager worked with us each day to choose the next day's menu, making sure she had something she enjoyed and could eat. Staying here was an incredible experience.

The rooms are functional, but old, and there was a general lack of cleanliness. We couldn't sleep well one night because of the mattress. When we asked about adding a topper, they put a blanket underneath the sheets instead. We also had to shower at 5:00 a.m. before a tour, and the water was freezing. Apparently the hot water doesn't work at that hour. It's a nice hotel in a good location, but those issues affected our stay.

The interior looks beautiful, and we were greeted warmly, but the beds were very uncomfortable. The pillows were extremely hard, and the polyester bedding made us sweat through the night. The duvet and pillows smelled as if they hadn't been washed in years. On top of that, the hotel is near the airport, and planes disturbed our sleep throughout the night. I don't recommend staying here.
