Changmoi House

I had a wonderful stay in this "Little Village", just outside the old city wall on a quiet street. The bungalow style room was great, with a comfortable bed and a nice warm shower. Breakfast came in different styles, and all the staff were helpful and great. When I’m in Chiang Mai again, I know where I’ll stay.

When we arrived, the girl at the front desk was friendly and welcoming. The building was old, but the room seemed fairly clean apart from what looked like blood stains on the duvet and heavy staining on a pillowcase. We asked at the desk for a fresh duvet on our way out, but nobody was there or came when we rang the bell. I’d read that the English-speaking staff left at 4:00 and someone else would be on until 9:00 pm. We went to dinner and came back by 7:00, but again nobody was at the desk. We rang, then I asked a young man playing on his phone in the hall whether he’d seen the desk staff. He turned out to be the staff person, and he’d been ignoring us. Using Google Translate, I explained the bedding issue. He didn’t want to handle it and told me to return the next day. I said we didn’t want to sleep under it and asked him to change it. He came to the room, saw the stains, yanked the duvet and pillow off the bed, then returned 5-10 minutes later and put them back roughly and angrily. I tried to help and show we appreciated the change, but he wasn’t having it. The replacement duvet was old and yellowish. We stayed two nights. At check-in, I’d told the girl we needed to leave around 6:45 and asked if anyone would be there to return our cash deposit. She said it was no problem because she came in at 6:30. But no one was at the desk when we came down at 6:40, or at any time we entered or left during our stay. The woman making breakfast saw us but couldn’t help. The man who carried our bags at check-in smiled and tried to tell us to wait. A little after 7:00, the woman from the kitchen finally found our deposit and returned it. We reached the bus station just two minutes before the bus left. Everyone else we met was pleasant, but between the aggressive, rude staff member, stained old bedding, and lack of responsible staff, we won’t stay here again.

The staff were so friendly, and we really enjoyed breakfast, especially the pancakes, some of the best we’ve had. Our room was a little old, but clean and very comfortable. We had nothing to complain about.

We arrived expecting a Garden Villa but were assigned a Standard Villa, and it was extremely dirty. The floor, sheets, windows, and other areas were visibly unclean, as the photos show. We couldn’t stay in those conditions and had to book another hotel for our whole stay. The receptionist agreed to cancel and refund the full amount, but we still haven’t received it.
