Hotel Nuu

The rooms are roomy, the beds comfortable, and everything felt clean and fresh. Reception were always smiling and genuinely friendly, and the staff went out of their way to help. The hot water was unreliable, the wifi never worked properly, and there was some traffic noise because of the location. Those things didn’t bother me too much. I loved my stay.

The staff were incredibly nice, answered my questions, and managed a very last-minute late check-in. As a solo woman traveler, I felt safe here. There was water in the communal area and two bottles in my room each day. I didn’t have breakfast included, and with Chiang Mai’s great food, I didn’t feel I needed hotel breakfast. The place is basic but did the job for a weekend. It has a large, industrial-style layout and communal space that reminded me of a former hostel. My room was clean and had what I needed: water, a bed, towels, and a hair dryer. The bathroom drain was slow, leaving some water on the floor by the toilet outside the shower, but there was no smell and it didn’t get in the way of using the bathroom. It’s on the west side of the old town. Crossing the busy main road can be a pain, but once across, getting into the old town was easy. Walking from the west to east side of the square takes about 40-45 minutes. Other reviews mentioned noise, but I didn’t find it especially loud over a long weekend.

There’s a live music bar attached to the hotel, so if you need quiet in the evening and at night, this might not suit you. Depending on the room, you can hear the music and even feel it. We were so tired by bedtime that it didn’t stop us falling asleep, and the music was great! The hotel is in a quieter part of the old city but still has lots of life and character. We really enjoyed the stay. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated, the service was great, and the optional breakfast was delicious.

I didn’t find the staff welcoming. I’d suggest seeing the room in person before you book.
