We came back each day looking forward to the breakfast buffet. It was one of the best we’ve had, with fresh boba tea and other tasty drinks, and we soon had our regular favorites. The staff were consistently kind and helpful, whether we explored the city on our own, took a tut-tut tour, or had the hotel arrange a private tour to see the monks. We stayed in late July/ early August of 2025 for my wife’s birthday and our 5 year wedding Anniversary. Arriving felt like stepping into a movie. Getting a spot by the pool early was lovely for some quiet time before families came out to swim. In the evening, the roof top bar and lounge was a relaxing place to wind down. We hope to return someday.

The hotel’s beef is halal, but guests aren’t clearly told about it. I only noticed a few small signs at the bar when I went there myself to ask for a drink. I don’t think halal meat should be the default for every guest without proper notice. A hotel at this level should explain the options clearly, offer separate halal choices for Muslim guests, and provide alternatives to others. Guests need transparency and choice. I was also uncomfortable when a staff member asked us for a five-star TripAdvisor review on another occasion, then followed up to check that we had actually submitted it. That felt inappropriate and unprofessional. Reviews should reflect what guests really think. The breakfast service was poor too. We had to look for waiters just to get basic drinks, while dirty plates piled up on our table. Staff seemed more occupied talking among themselves near the bar than helping guests or clearing tables. The first problem came when I was hurrying down for breakfast before an early tour. I expected a polite, professional welcome at a five-star hotel, but Josy stopped me and said I couldn’t enter because I was wearing slippers and needed to change shoes. I went back upstairs, changed, and came down again, only to see several other guests in sandals and flip-flops inside without any problem. When I raised the inconsistency, Josy and a colleague suddenly said they didn’t speak English, avoiding the issue instead of addressing it. Being singled out and refused entry that way was completely unacceptable at InterContinental Chiang Mai Resort. Taken together, the breakfast visit and other service issues were deeply disappointing. The lack of professionalism and clear communication falls far below what I’d expect from a hotel in this category. Management should make meaningful changes.

I’ve had few stays in Asia that rank as highly as this one. The service matched the property, with friendly, professional staff who seemed properly trained. That made a real difference for me. Kudos to the management and team. The hotel is just off loi kroh, so it stays peaceful at night, and it’s a great choice near loi kroh and night bazaar. It’s a rebrand of the imperial mae ping and has been thoroughly renovated. Inside, it looks brand new and feels like a proper 5 star facility. My room was large, clean, and nicely furnished with a mix of traditional and modern decor. Everything worked well, the fixtures looked great, and the bed was super comfortable. The only thing I missed was a balcony. Highly recommended.

The standard room felt a little small for two, especially for several days, so you might want to consider a larger category if you need more space. The rooms are stylish and thoughtfully laid out, though. Service was welcoming, professional, and attentive. The hotel itself is elegant and beautifully designed, right in the city center and about a 20-minute walk from the Old City, which made exploring convenient. Breakfast had plenty of variety and high-quality choices. We skipped the hotel restaurants beyond breakfast because the prices were relatively high. One small treat: they sell excellent pralines in the lobby, worth trying. We had a very high-quality stay at this high-end hotel in a prime part of Chiang Mai, especially suited to anyone looking for a luxurious central stay.

The room was compact and cozy. Some might find the open layout a bit cramped, but I liked the design and was comfortable there. The hotel has a lovely Northern Thai feel, with a calm ambience that seems thoughtfully done. Gad Lanna’s breakfast was good, and sitting outside in the cool morning breeze was especially pleasant. Just outside there’s a nice garden area with a temple, adding to the charm. Staff were reliably friendly and polite, and the gym and pool were well maintained. Great central location in the heart of Chiang Mai. A very comfortable stay.
