Mountain View Guesthouse

The location was spot on, and arriving late wasn’t an issue since someone is always at reception. My room was spacious and clean, with a huge bed and a big bathroom. The street was noisy, though, and the outside AC unit from the neighboring room was loud enough to vibrate through the walls. That was the main downside for me. I still loved my stay at Mountain View Guesthouse.

Inside the Old City, this place somehow feels like staying in a forest. The rooms sit around a large yard with mature trees, benches, and little streams. My room was quiet and well equipped, and they brought fresh water bottles daily. At night, I sometimes heard noises, probably frogs calling. Staff were helpful and spoke English. The internet was very fast, and there are nearby restaurants, cafes, and mini markets. A large night market is right across the main road. Cleaning is available on request, and they also offer laundry service.

You can get to the night food stalls in seconds, just across the road, and there are restaurants, cafes, Seven Eleven stores, massage places, and nail bars within a five-minute walk. The location really is fantastic. My room was roomy, had a great view over Chiang Mai Old Town, and was cleaned every day. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. The rooftop is easy to reach, with spectacular sunrises and sunsets. There’s also a cafe behind the rooms, open from 8am. The coffee was hot and delicious, and I loved the fresh bagels and banana pancakes. Reception is staffed every night until midnight.

The main road noise went on day and night, and I lost a whole night of sleep because of it. I had another night booked in advance, but the staff agreed to cancel it after I explained what was happening. I appreciated that. The hostel is central and the room was fair value for the relatively low price, but my experience overall wasn’t good.
