Nidhra Lanna Hotel

I found this place on Google Maps and called because the website wasn’t working. They told me there were no rooms. A couple of minutes later, I booked through Agoda and paid 9,000 baht for one night, over four times the usual 2,000. I understand that rooms or packages can vary, but what I got was a small, ordinary room without breakfast. It felt more like an Airbnb than a hotel, and there was no breakfast. The downsides kept adding up: there’s no elevator, only stairs, and the shower had a weak, slow flow. It was noisy all the time. The closet was broken and had no handles, and the staff’s English wasn’t good enough for easy communication. The place also didn’t look like the photos on the websites. I wouldn’t stay here again, even at the regular price.

The staff surprised us with anniversary decorations on the bed, which was a lovely touch. They were friendly, and the hotel is in a great spot in the city’s historic center. We had a very pleasant stay.

The staff were even better than the already great location, and the room was much larger and nicer than I expected. The bathrooms were clean, though they could use a deep clean since there was a faint urine smell. Loud music from outside carried on at night, but the staff were happy to provide earplugs. I absolutely loved the hotel. There’s a laundromat next door, along with a really cute breakfast place.

The staff were lovely, but that’s no special guesthouse perk in Thailand. This place is sold as four stars on Booking and three on Google, yet to me it’s just a guesthouse. At 20 euros a night, it might make sense, but the rate is misleading, especially since we later found a five-star hotel for the same price. There’s no elevator or lobby, and we had no water over the weekend. A very noisy boulevard and a canal with rats sit right in front of the hotel, too. Honestly, I wouldn’t pay more than 20-30 euros a night.
