OYO 339 Nakara Boutique Chiang Mai

After a rough transition, the place is under new management and has become a great budget option in town. You get a comfortable bed, a nice balcony, a small but handy fridge, a good bathroom, and even a dresser, which other similar hotels are missing. Add air conditioning and free coffee, and it's a great deal.

The patio was my favorite place to spend time, with all the greenery and pretty wind chimes. The staff out front were so kind, and one evening they kept my purse safe after I left it outside. There’s good Wi-Fi, coffee and cookies throughout the day, plus bike and scooter rentals. It’s near a 7/11, and a Grab to the old city was about 52 baht. The stray cat was lovely too, and I got attached to it. We arrived in the evening on April 6th. We’d asked for the proper address but never got it, though a helpful Thai man helped us communicate with the host. The rooms were decent, and I liked the reclaimed wood. Front staff spoke little English, but they were very kind to kids, and some used a translation app, which helped a lot. We started in room 203, then moved to 201 for the balcony. Room 201 didn’t have the bathroom mirror or towel rack that 203 had, but that wasn’t a big deal. The mattresses were the problem. They were lumpy, I could feel the springs, and I couldn’t get a proper night’s sleep, so we cut our stay short. The host communication wasn’t great, though her staff were amazing. For $20 a night, you get what you pay for. It’s worth a try if you’re not fussy about beds.

It’s in a quiet part of town, so there wasn’t noise at night. The owners were friendly and helpful, the laundry setup was great, and the shower had strong pressure with hot water when wanted.

We’ll come back on our next stay in Chiang Mai. It’s a peaceful place with a lovely view, and the people were so nice.
