Poodson Hotel Chiangmai

I found the location really convenient, close to Nimman, with hardly any airplane noise. The alley is peaceful, and there’s a laundry spot, 7-11, temple, cafes, and restaurants nearby. The hotel was the coziest I’ve stayed in. The bed, TV, bathroom, and even the refrigerator were all nice, and the fridge worked properly, unlike at other places. Netflix and Prime are available too. They asked for a 500THB cash deposit for the card, which was a bit of a hassle since I usually pay for everything online, and there wasn’t an ATM nearby.

Our stay was smooth until the last day, when the Ping River flooded areas east of the Old City, including the train station. Many locals and tourists were affected, but Poodson was far enough from the river that we were safe. Our train wasn’t so fortunate. The reception staff made several calls to the railway operator for us and offered an extension to checkout so we could sort out other travel plans. We were so grateful for their kindness. The room was spacious, bright, and well ventilated, like a thoughtfully designed studio apartment, though it didn’t have a kitchen. The bed was comfortable, the aircon cold, the water hot and strong, and there was Netflix. The shampoo and body wash had an odd smell. The airport is very close, so planes flew overhead now and then. Otherwise, nothing bad to report. Poodson sits in an alley off a busy main road, with a modern exterior among low-rise homes. The neighborhood felt safe and peaceful, with useful shops nearby, including 7-11, bubble tea, a coin laundromat, cafe, and eatery. There’s unsheltered parking if you drive. I spotted two EV chargers, but you’d need to check with the hotel if you want to use one. The lobby was impressively clean and well looked after. I saw the cleaning staff working hard every day. Tea, coffee, and cookies are laid out each morning in the communal dining area. We’d first planned to stay near Chiang Mai train station for the evening train to Bangkok, but booked Poodson instead. In hindsight, we were glad we did.

The hotel was new and quiet enough for a good night’s sleep, with a reasonable price. It has four floors and six rooms on each floor. There’s free parking if you drive, and a small balcony, though it has no chairs or table. The laundry shop is about 100 away and 711 about 200 away. Reception is unattended after midnight, but you can come and go with your key card.

The staff were energetic and keen to help, which gave the stay a nice feel. The hotel has WiFi and hot water, and the TV has Netflix, so I wouldn’t mind spending a whole day in. It was great in every way for me, and I’d highly recommend it. 👍👍👍
