This is a hidden gem in Chiangmai, set in a quiet, partly forested neighborhood among local Thais. It has 23 Studio apartments and five 1-bedroom apartments, all with well-planned layouts and quality furnishings. The one-bedroom units are usually full, even in low season. Mr Thanin, the owner, is delightful, speaks fluent English, and trained in hospitality management in the UK. His assistant, Dew-WEE, is always ready to help with a smile. If you haven’t rented a motorbike or car, GRAB Rideshare is very cheap, and the staff can help you use it. Rates vary with the length of your stay, and I recommend staying at least a month.

Tanin and every staff member I met were extremely kind and helpful. The place is peaceful, surrounded by greenery, and tucked on the edge of town. A quaint stay, highly recommended!

The one-bedroom unit I stayed in was spacious and comfortable, with loads of shelves and drawers, nice dark wood details, and a firm but comfy bed. The AC and hot water worked great. The pillows were thick, firm, and heavy, which didn’t suit me, though that’s personal preference. My room faced north and east rather than being mountain-view, but from the 4th floor I could still see lovely mountains to the north on a clear day, plus part of Doi Suthep from the roomy balcony. There was netting on the balcony, but I stopped noticing it. Dewii at the front desk was kind, friendly, and helpful. Across the street there’s a full kitchen and a coin-operated washer, or you can use wash-and-fold service. I liked that each floor has recycling and compost bins as well as trash. The mountain view from the glass-sided elevator and the central stairs with huge windows was a daily treat. The green location has a couple of nice cafes, a Lotus’s Go Fresh, and the Centre of the Universe swim club within a 10-15 minute walk. I disagree with calling the neighborhood “rundown”; some neighbors are very wealthy and others are regular, but there’s nothing rundown about it. The units are well designed, and it was a terrific stay overall, though the noise was a problem for me. I’m more sensitive to noise than most and couldn’t get used to the plane noise, about 60 decibels indoors with the windows closed, enough to make sleeping unreliable. Dogs gathered in the small field across the street, and their intermittent barking sometimes woke me, though it rarely lasted long. A rooster and chickens live there too. Some neighborhood boys occasionally played loudly just outside, usually in the evening or on a weekend afternoon, and I sometimes heard hammering. Birds and frogs were charming and not loud, and there was hardly any traffic noise because the place is far from the main road. It was often quiet and peaceful, but the soundproofing indoors could be better: even without sharing a wall, I could clearly hear the TV from someone two doors away.

The field next door was noisy with chanting, drums, and singing throughout the day and night. It seemed to be some kind of hippy commune.

A spacious, peaceful little place in Chang Khian, one of my favorite parts of cm. The room had nice decor and lighting, plus a calm outdoor area; the lobby and patio were quiet and welcoming too. I had an easy night and no odd experiences. I just paid the rate upfront and that was it, haha. You'd need a scooter to stay here, I think, unless you use Uber. Good value, especially for someone who's stayed at lots of hotels in cm and around Thailand.
