The August Hostel

The woman at reception and the security and cleaning guy were amazing, so kind, sweet, and helpful. We also got better prices for activities. The place felt really clean too :)

Good value for the money, with a clean space and nice staff. The rooms are tight, but the bed itself is spacious and has room for small things. The annoying part was the squeaky bed frame, it made noise whenever I climbed in or changed sides. The hostel is hot, though there’s AC in the room and fans in the other areas. Bathrooms are shared by gender.

I stayed for a week and had no plans when I arrived. The staff gave me advice about lots of things to do and booked a Muay Thai fight and a tuktuk there for less than the door-entry ticket prices. They couldn’t have been more helpful. My only small gripe is that travel backpacks don’t fit in the lockers, so they have to go on the bed or floor in the room. Apart from that, it was excellent.

A bird pooped all over me outside, and they wouldn’t let me use their toilet to clean up. Nasty. EDIT: The owner says letting me in to clean up would somehow have put the safety and security of guests at risk. That was horrible treatment. I could never stay somewhere where the owner lacks basic human decency and compassion.
