The Grace House Chiangmai - Hostel

Great central spot near all the tourist hotspots, at a very reasonable price. This is the sweetest guest house I’ve visited in Thailand, with cute, traditional old school decor. They helped book day trips at cheap rates, and the room was clean. There were also lots of little extras that made our Chiang Mai trip special. Service was 10/10. Really can’t beat it, highly recommend.

The hotel is in a prime location, but the hotel honor Mr. Noon scammed me out of 7300 batt. I had a problem with my bank account and couldn’t withdraw cash, so I arranged for a friend in dubai to send money to the hotel account. Hotel guy Noom never returned it. He kept assuring me he would pay, then delayed again and again before ultimately refusing, saying he had a problem with his banking system. I had to leave Thailand without the money, and since then he has refused to return it. What a thief. Guys, be careful and don’t trust him with money.

I liked the charming neighborhood and street, and the friendly owner made this feel like a good value, away from the usual tourist path. I enjoyed feeling closer to everyday life here than inside the wall. A few quirks cost it a star. The windows are in the bathroom and the ‘closet room’; the other windows face the hallway. A light stays on there at night for safety, but it didn’t disturb my sleep. I was with my mom, whose mobility is impaired, and the tiles were hard for her to walk on. All in all, I’d return to this humble, lovely place. Thanks for having us.

The location is the main draw: close to the downtown night market and nightlife, with small restaurants and bars nearby and more a couple of blocks away. It’s easy to walk to what you need, while the hotel sits back enough to stay quiet. The owner speaks English and is very nice and supportive. Laundry was great and costs a small fee. There’s scooter parking, though I’m unsure whether there’s room for cars. The rooms are close together, more like a hostel with private rooms, but it was mostly quiet during the couple of days I stayed, and I had no problems. It’s a nice little budget hotel for a few days near the action, with friendly staff, but only the basics. My rate was in the 500 Baht range, and for me the value was more about being near the area than the room itself. I’m not sure I’d call it a bed and breakfast. There’s a cafe out front with great food, but it isn’t really included in the stay. My room was okay for one person, though on the small side, and might feel a bit small for a couple. The bed was okay, the furniture simple, and there was a desk, fridge, and hot pot. No closet, just a small shelf, hanging bar, and a couple of hangers. There wasn’t a window to the outside. The large window beside the door looked onto the hall and across at another room, so it wasn’t really usable as a window. The bathroom was inside the room, with two doors. One opened to a small room with a large covered, screened window and a sink. The other led to a small toilet and shower room. The water got hot and the pressure was okay, though the space was small but functional. The TV was an okay wall mounted flat screen with standard Thai channels and a few English ones. I couldn’t get the HDMI port to work with my Firestick, and unlike in most hotels, it was unusable. Internet speed was moderate, but I had only minimal trouble working online and getting on the net.
