The Hive Chiang Mai

There are lots of better places to stay. The rooms have almost no soundproofing and the place has hostel vibes. You can find better located rooms and places with better hospitality, where the staff are trained in proper guest experience.

The WiFi didn’t work at all in my room on the 4th floor, though maybe that floor is too far from the connection. It worked fine in the lobby. The staff were incredibly nice, my room was clean and beautiful, and it had a great view. Room service was on time and the bathroom was clean. The location was very good, with an easy walk to the old town and plenty of restaurants and corner shops nearby for convenience store needs.

The room we got was totally different from the picture on Booking.com. We’d paid extra for the Grand Suite with King Bed because it looked amazing, and we were looking forward to sitting on the sofa with a mountain view and an uninterrupted cityscape. Our previous hotel stay ended because of renovations, and The Hive Chiang Mai Hotel was literally a 5 minute walk away, so it seemed like a great choice. We arrived early because of checkout times. The room wasn’t ready, so the Hive took our bags while we had lunch and explored until the 2pm check-in. First impressions at reception weren’t great. It gave hostel vibes, which isn’t bad, just not what we expected or wanted. We tried to shorten our stay from 2 days to 1, but the hotel pretty much said no. We decided to wait since we’d come for the room, not the reception area, and were checked in well after 2pm. When we asked for the room we’d paid for, we were told it was occupied. They said it was unreasonable to expect the same room shown online because it was just an example. We were so disappointed that we cancelled and booked a much nicer hotel.

The panoramic view from our corner room was stunning, though I do wish the windows had been cleaned. We booked directly with the hotel and really liked how the layout kept the bedroom area separate. The bed was very comfortable, the bathtub looked new and was clean, and the staff were friendly. We enjoyed our stay.
