The Rim Resort

The Rim was a lovely place to stay during our four-night tour of Thailand in November 2025. We were there for Loy Krathong, and within an hour of arriving we’d been welcomed warmly, shown around, given a complimentary krathong, cocktail, and snacks, and shown how to make paper lanterns. Learning to make them was lovely, and the staff were so attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed the daily breakfasts and had a delicious dinner at the resort restaurant too. Our room was incredibly spacious, with a big balcony and a large bathroom that had everything we needed. The grounds and pool were peaceful and lovely, though we didn’t swim because the weather was a little too cool. The historic district location was great for walking to several places, and we used the hotel’s bike rentals to explore farther. The staff were top-notch. They helped with our laundry, called a taxi when we were stuck without one, and always made us feel like we had nothing to worry about. The hotel is beautifully designed and feels like a world of its own. I highly recommend The Rim and will keep it in mind as one of the best hotel options in Chiang Mai. The location is perfectly central for anything you want to do, and the rooms are spacious and clean. Breakfast has a good mix of Thai and western choices. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and always go out of their way to try to meet requests, from airport or market shuttles to extra blankets. Great people, great place, and a great experience. I’d love to stay here again. 5 stars.

The room was clean and well kept, and even though we stayed in late December, we hardly saw any insects. Breakfast was excellent too, with gentle, well-balanced Thai dishes that tasted delicious. We especially enjoyed the welcome afternoon sweets by the pool. There aren’t many places to eat nearby in the evening, basically just Thai-style hot pot, so we recommend dinner at the night market. The hotel has a free shuttle bus leaving for the night market at 7:00 p.m., but you need to reserve it on the same day.

The setting is lovely, almost jungle-like, yet the old city bustle is only about five minutes away. I had a peaceful solo stay and would gladly return. Staff were attentive, I got a larger room upgrade, and there were free snacks. The pool was nice, though I skipped it because there weren’t enough loungers in the sun. Traffic and the surrounding area made it a little noisier than some places inside the old city, but it didn’t bother me much. One Chiang Mai note: even in a 4* hotel, the hot water wasn’t very hot. I’d noticed the same across the other places I stayed, and was told it’s a city-wide issue, so keep that in mind if you like really hot showers.
