Bed and Breakfast Chiang Rai

The rooms were spacious and clean, and the Thai housekeeper was warm and friendly. She looked after us and made breakfast every morning. I find it hard to review the place without feeling disrespectful to her. The stay itself was basic. Heavy rain knocked out the electricity for a few hours on two nights in a row. Being there alone made that unpleasant for our son. The two dogs guarding the house were also quite scary to him, and he was often afraid to go in or out to reach the car. They were calm when the Thai woman was around, but usually it was just us. Maybe there was more to do, but communication was limited because she spoke only Thai and we had to rely on Google Translate.

The host's hospitality and the property really amazed me. I booked because this was the closest place to the university I was visiting for a conference. Breakfast with the host was lovely, looking out over the huge garden and swimming pool. My room was large and comfortable; I didn't need AC and just let the breeze in. There isn't a restaurant nearby, but you can order anything on Grab and the host can help you choose. A natural sulfur hot spring is about a 15-minute walk away, and massage needs to be booked.

The host kindly upgraded my room, and this turned out to be one of the best places I slept during my trip. The interior is so cozy, like someone designed it for themselves. Such a pleasant surprise. I'll come back! :)

We spent ages relaxing in the sunshine by the pool, and Jindara made delicious breakfasts every morning, with fresh fruit and coffee. She offered both traditional Thai and more traditional Western options, and speaks fluent English. She was really helpful. It's a beautiful, quiet B&B just outside Chiang Rai, great for a relaxing stay. We had a guest house, or wood house, next to the main property, so we weren't sharing with anyone. Jindara is updating it, so furnishings were minimal, but it had what we needed: a large bed, working AC, private toilet and shower, parking, fridge, and balcony. There was also a TV and some friendly dogs from the neighbours. Restaurants are within a 10-minute walk, but people in the local community speak little or no English, so have a translator app ready. I'd suggest renting a scooter or car to get around easily. Grab was also very cheap, about 160 Bhat to Chiang Rai city centre. We'd stay again and recommend it. If furnishings matter to you, check with the host about what's in your room before booking, since her other rooms are fully updated and gorgeous.
